DJI Air 3S and Mini 4 Pro target different priorities. Air 3S is a larger dual-camera aircraft with a 1-inch main sensor and 70 mm medium tele camera. Mini 4 Pro is a sub-249 g single-camera drone built around portability, true vertical shooting, and a lower regulatory burden in many locations.

Camera System
Air 3S provides the stronger general-purpose imaging hardware. Its 24 mm main camera uses a 1-inch 50 MP sensor, and its 70 mm camera adds optical perspective compression without relying on digital zoom. DJI publishes up to 14 stops of HDR dynamic range and 4K/120 fps capability for the main camera.
Mini 4 Pro uses a single 1/1.3-inch 48 MP camera. It still supports 4K/60 fps HDR, 4K/100 fps slow motion, 10-bit D-Log M, and HLG. Its distinctive advantage is the rotating gimbal for native portrait recording, which is useful for vertical social video.
Portability and Regulation
At 724 g, Air 3S is substantially heavier and requires more space in a bag. Mini 4 Pro is under 249 g with its standard battery and carries a C0 classification in supported European markets. Requirements vary by country, pilot, location, and use, so weight alone does not determine whether a flight is legal.
Flight and Safety Features
Air 3S adds forward-facing LiDAR and DJI’s nightscape omnidirectional sensing. Mini 4 Pro provides omnidirectional binocular vision sensing but does not have the Air 3S forward LiDAR hardware.
DJI rates Air 3S for up to 45 minutes. Mini 4 Pro is rated for 34 minutes with its standard battery and 45 minutes with the Plus battery where available. The Plus battery pushes Mini 4 Pro above 249 g. Both use O4 and share a 20 km FCC laboratory transmission maximum.
Which One Should You Buy?
Choose Air 3S if:
- You need a 1-inch main sensor and a separate 70 mm camera.
- Low-light work and forward LiDAR matter.
- Longer standard-battery endurance is important.
- You accept the additional size, weight, and possible regulatory requirements.
Choose Mini 4 Pro if:
- Sub-249 g portability is a priority.
- You need native true vertical shooting.
- A single 24 mm-equivalent camera is enough.
- You want a smaller and usually less expensive travel kit.
Verdict
Air 3S is the better camera platform; Mini 4 Pro is the better portability platform. Air 3S justifies its weight with two focal lengths, a larger primary sensor, longer standard-battery endurance, and LiDAR-assisted sensing. Mini 4 Pro remains more convenient for travel and vertical content.
